Mom accused of stabbing 2 young daughters

WESTMINSTER, Calif. Officer Van Woodson of the Westminster Police Department says police found the woman, Thuy Le, clutching her 3-year-old daughter and both were covered in blood. Her 5-year-old daughter was then found in a bedroom with a stab wound to the chest.

Police say the 5-year-old is hospitalized on life support in a medically induced coma. The 38-year-old mother and her younger daughter suffered only superficial wounds and are expected to survive.

Police allege Thuy Le stabbed her daughters, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, and then tried to kill herself in her cousin's house in Westminster.

Le and her daughters are Garden Grove residents. They were at the home on the 14000 block of Starsia Street visiting relatives when the woman's cousin awoke to screaming at 6:30 a.m. and called 911.

"I saw the blood on my cousin's chest, and I asked her, 'What's going on?' And she said nothing, she was just quiet. And I said, 'I have to call police right now, you have to tell me what's going on'," said the woman's cousin, Toan Pham.

Police say the mother confessed to the stabbings and suicide attempt before being transported to the hospital.

The family says Le had placed a knife in the kitchen sink.

Le's cousin says everything was fine Tuesday night. But he believes the stay-at-home mom was depressed over something, possibly financial problems, after receiving a strange call from her last week.

"And she was just crying and asking us to pray for her," said Toan Pham. "And we all asked, 'What's going on? Tell us a story.' And she kept quiet and hung up."

"She did admit to stabbing her daughters and then stabbing herself in a suicide attempt," said Officer Woodson.

Police also interviewed the visibly distraught father, a taxi driver who arrived at the home shortly after the stabbings.

"I don't know if there's some marital issues happening, if there's some mental health issue that's a factor, we just don't know, we don't have an answer to that right now," said Officer Woodson.

Neighbors awoke to learn of what happened in the normally quiet neighborhood.

"It's very disturbing, I'm kind of sad for the children, I mean, they did not deserve this," said Van Le, a neighbor.

According to police, Thuy Le faces charges of attempted murder.
