HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. Fans gathered in Surf City, otherwise known as Huntington Beach, to recognize Chris Hawk, who has been shredding in Orange County since the 1960s.
Hawk has throat cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy.
His doctors have restricted his physical activity.
The Surfer's Hall of Fame, at Pacific Coast Highway and Main, contains the hand and footprints of some of the sport's most famous surfers.
