Leaders to discuss possible LAPD cuts

September 21, 2009 5:45:08 AM PDT
The LAPD faces possible cuts on Monday as city leaders meet to talk about the budget.Los Angeles faces a $530 million deficit.

In an effort to help close that gap, there's talk of laying off some 300 police cadets, imposing a hiring freeze and forcing officers to take furloughs.

LAPD Chief William Bratton and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have denounced the proposal, saying it would reverse the city's falling crime rates.
