September 25, 2009 12:37:21 PM PDT
Researchers at the University of New Hampshire, studying more than 1,400 U.S. children, found that children who are spanked have lower IQs.In fact, the kids who were spanked scored as much as 5 points lower on IQ tests than those who were not spanked.

Experts say the results even held up after accounting for parental education, income and cognitive stimulation by parents.
