Man rescues children from condo fire

CARSON, Calif. Neighbors saw the smoke and flames on Avalon Boulevard and Scottsdale Drive at about 11:20 p.m.

About 45 firefighters attacked the flames and managed to knock down the fire in about 20 minutes, but in the midst of the chaos, residents were scrambling to get out of their homes.

One man helped rescue a child when her mother when screaming outside for help.

"By the time I get to the steps inside the house, the flames are already everywhere, and it's foggy and smoky," said a man identified as Maurice, who rescued the children.

"That's when the kids start running down, so I grabbed the little girl or whatever kids I could see and just run out," he said.

A number of residents are displaced because of the fire. The Red Cross was called to help the victims.
