Firefighters discover body in Dumpster

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. Firefighters were called to put out a fire in a Dumpster located in the parking lot of a furniture building on the 13100 block of Firestone Boulevard just after 12:30 a.m.

Once the fire was put out, firefighters discovered a badly burned body.

"Essentially we looked inside and we see, you know, the burned remains," said Jason Zuhlke, Whittier Police Department. "We also noticed that the hands and feet have been bound by some type of extension cord or electrical wiring."

Police say the body was that of a woman. The victim has not yet been identified.

Despite the charred condition of the body, detectives were able to make what they believe was a key discovery into who the victim is. They found two tattoos on her upper back near her shoulder blades. Next to her left shoulder blade was a butterfly tattoo and on her right shoulder blade was the name"David."

Investigators are trying to figure out how the woman died and how she ended up in the Dumpster.

"We're going to be relying heavily on forensic evidence and help from arson investigators to really get a good picture of what happened," said Zuhlke.

Whittier police are asking for the public's help in solving the case. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Whittier Police Department at (562) 945-8250.
