Council cracks down on pier activity

VENTURA, Calif. It's one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. City officials want to keep it that way.

They're trying to curb complaints about smoking, drinking and other behavior on the pier.

Monday night the City Council passed a new law to outlaw pier jumping, loitering, bonfires, roller skates and skateboards on the pier.

Anyone who disregards the law will be fined up to $125.

The new law is up for a second vote next week. If it passes, it will take effect in November 7.
