The incident began in a parking lot of a business on the 1300 block of Beach Boulevard as an alleged purse snatching.
A retired L.A. County Sheriff's deputy called police to report that he was pursuing a car with robbery suspects inside, a man and a woman.
The pursuit ended at the La Habra Woods Apartments.
Shots were fired and a male supsect was killed at the scene.
The female suspect ran from the area and remains on the loose.
