Aging heart can be prevented

KYOTO, Japan Researchers at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine say they've figured out a way to suppress a specific gene that regulates the aging of cells.

The scientists found that mice with the suppressed gene had improved heart function, less fibrosis (which makes the heart inflexible) and fewer biological markers of aging than a control group.

The World Health Organization says old age is a major risk factor for /*heart failure*/.

The American Heart Association says 5.7 million Americans have the condition. Nearly 10 out of every 1,000 people over age 65 suffer heart failure every year.
