Medical school enrollment climbs in 2008

For the 11th straight year, medical school enrollment is up. First-year enrollment climbed 2 percent over 2008.The Association of American Medical Colleges report says while white students make up 70 percent of first-year students, the number of black and Asian enrollees climbed slightly.

Hispanic first-year students remained mostly unchanged.

Four new medical schools opened this year, and others are expanding class sizes to accommodate all the students.
