Police said the confrontation was between a group of suspects walking on the sidewalk and a motorist. They got into an argument, and gunfire was exchanged. A witness said she heard about five gunshots.
The girl was walking with her mother by Rainbow Children's Academy when a bullet grazed the girl's forehead. She was rushed to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
The preschool was on lockdown for a short time, and some parents picked up their students.
The injured girl was not a student at the preschool.
There are no reports of any other children being injured.
Police canvassed the neighborhood looking for the suspects in the car and on the sidewalk, but no one has been arrested yet.
