FAA looking into close call at LAX

LOS ANGELES The runway incursion involved a Midwest Express Embraer 190 and a Northwest Airlines Boeing 757. Midwest Express Flight 1503 was returning from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and had landed at the airport's southernmost runway.

It was told to turn onto a taxiway and hold from there.

"The jet was supposed to stop 200 feet from the edge of a parallel runway but continued on. A controller saw what was happening and ordered the aircraft to halt," FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. Northwest Airlines Flight 623 was taking off for Honolulu, Hawaii.

Gregor went onto say the jets were within 100 feet of each other, but the FAA is still calculating the exact distance. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the incident.
