Groundbreaking for 10 freeway project

BALDWIN PARK, Calif Caltrans is adding 4.4 miles of carpool lanes, also known as high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, to both sides of the San Bernardino Freeway between the 605 Freeway and Puente Avenue in Baldwin Park. The new lanes are expected to ease congestion through the area.

The mayor of Baldwin Park joked about how badly it's needed.

"When you give directions where Baldwin Park is located, you only need to say one thing. It's where the freeway comes to a complete stop. Then you know you're in Baldwin Park," said Mayor Manuel Lozano.

The project is expected to be completed by October, 2012.
