Daytime colonoscopies more effective

November 8, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
A new UCLA study shows that the time of day affects just how many polyps are spotted in someone's colon.Researchers say the most polyps are discovered in the morning and less are detected throughout the day.

They say one of the reasons why is that doctors are less proficient at spotting problems later in the day.

Fatigue sets in caused by repetitive view of colonoscopies.

Based on these findings, however, health experts say patients shouldn't fear being examined in the afternoon or demand an early morning appointment.
