New high-tech army unit begins mission

COSTA MESA, Calif. It was created as part of the army's transformation into a more mobile, operational military force.

The unit will bring more than 120 high-tech, communications-related army reserve positions to Southern California. "We will strive to be good stewards in our new community as we look forward to long standing mutually beneficial relationship," said Col. Curtis D. Mattison at the Sunday ceremony.

The unit is located on the property that used to be the site of the World War II Santa Ana Army Air Field.
