New "job campus" comes to Downtown L.A.

LOS ANGELES The YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association) Greater Los Angeles is getting an $82 million grant from the federal government to develop a Job Corps Urban Campus in Downtown Los Angeles.

The seven story building will include a library, computer lab, a medical and dental clinic and infirmary, as well as classrooms and residential units for 400 students.

Construction is set to begin this month. The project is expected to generate more than 900 construction-related jobs. Many of those jobs will be filled by Job Corps students.

The facility should be finished in late 2011.
