32-year-old Jose Zepeda Reyes turned himself into Los Angeles Police about an hour after the crash.
Reyes told officers he changed his mind about killing himself and left the car on the tracks.
No one was injured in the collision. The train sustained only minor damage.
Reyes was arrested and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
