L.A. Mission gives out hot Thanksgiving meals

LOS ANGELES "It's great, I think it's really great," said Peaches Parker of Los Angeles. "If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have a good Thanksgiving."

Legendary actor /*Kirk Douglas*/ and his wife, Anne, were also on hand for the event which they have been attending for several years.

Wells Fargo Bank donated $35,000 to the L.A. Mission Wednesday.

"It's a blessing, giving, receiving and you know, I am thankful for all this," said Ron Garcia of Sante Fe Springs.

Walter Williams of Los Angeles has been to the L.A. Mission before for this meal and expressed appreciation.

"I think it's really a great thing, man because I remember when they used to be in the alley over here and they really did good then and I thank God for this right here," Williams said.

The president of the L.A. Mission, Herbert L. Smith, said they are proud of the help they provide every day to people who are struggling.

"There are thousands of people in need and this is a chance for us to let the people of Los Angeles know what we do 365 days a year, which is to serve the poor and the homeless in Skid Row," said Smith.

Last year, the L.A. Mission served almost 3,000 Thanksgiving meals to people in need.
