"This is like the first night into the dream. It's like, you know, we started the journey. We're at the beginning of the beginning. And now you actually see your feet on the yellow brick road kind of lighting up," said McDonald.
It was on November 13th when McDonald was named the winner of Oprah's Karaoke Challenge. He took home $250,000 and a recording contract. But before he headed into the studio, McDonald got a feel for his audience with live shows.
"The energy is collective," explained McDonald. "So when it's big, it's rushing and you feel the crowd really drawn in. You open your mouth to sing and when you hear those keys and that guitar strung, man, it just takes you into another world."
And so for his first live performance in L.A. since his big win, McDonald invited Anna Harrington to join him on stage. Harrington was also one of Oprah's finalists.
"When he called me and said, 'Why don't you come over here?' I jumped on the first plane and I was here and now we're going to rock it out and show America and L.A. what we've got," said Harrington.
