Ventura City Council has appointed new mayor

VENTURA, Calif. Newly installed council member Mike Tracy was chosen as deputy mayor.

Fulton was first elected to the Ventura City council in 2003, and reelected in 2007. He recently completed a two year term as deputy mayor.

Fulton has lived in Ventura for 23 years. He is a principal of Design, Community and Environment, an urban planning firm. He also teaches urban planning at the University of Southern California.

The new mayor has represented the city of Ventura on the Ventura County Transportation commission, the Ventura Auto Center Dealers' and New Car Associations. The Gold Coast Transit Board of Directors and the Ventura County Library Services Commission.

"We are facing tough times now, but we must use this opportunity to lay the foundation for a prosperous and sustainable future," Fulton said. " We have a great council, and I look forward to working with them."

New deputy mayor Mike Tracy is a newly elected council member. He is a 30 year member of the Ventura Police Department and served as chief of police from 1999 to 2005.

Tracy has pledged to donate all of his Council pay to deserving nonprofit organizations to improve the community.
