Jeff Bridges received a Critics' Choice best actor nomination for his latest role in the music filled drama, "Crazy Heart." He has also been named best actor by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.Jeff Bridges gets under the skin of a down-on-his luck singer-songwriter in the new movie "Crazy Heart."

Oscar winning actor Robert Duvall is one of the film's producers, and also has a small part in the film.

He can't imagine anyone but Bridges striking such a chord with this role.

"It's a character study he inhabited, made him breathe and live," said Duvall. "It was one of his favorite parts ever."

And it's a part Bridges almost didn't play.

"I passed on it originally because a big hunk of the thing was missing -- no tunes," said Bridges. "It was all about music and there were no songs."

Bridges says that if it wasn't for a friend of his he probably wouldn't have done the film.

"About a year later, I ran into my buddy T-Bone Burnett and he said 'what about this film,' and I told him I read it. He asked if I was going to do it. I told him that if he did it, I would do it," said Bridges. "And boom that was the end of it."

"Crazy Heart" also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal. It will be in theaters in limited release on Wednesday.
