Ventura robbery thwarted by Good Samaritan

VENTURA, Calif. Police say last Saturday at 7:21 p.m., 42-year-old Rigoberto Ordaz of Oxnard was walking in the area of Santa Clara and Palm streets, when two suspects approached him. The two men attacked Ordaz and took his wallet. That's when, police say, a witness saw the attack and came to the assistance of Ordaz.

Both he and the witness detained one of the suspects, 37-year-old Charles Tatum of Ventura until police arrived. The second suspect took off and remains on the run. He was vaguely described as a white man in his 40s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds.

The victim was not injured and his wallet was recovered.

Tatum was booked into Ventura County jail on robbery charges.
