New Earth exhibit opened in Santa Ana Tuesday

SANTA ANA, Calif. It's called "Planetary Research Station." PRS comes in the form of a six-foot, 3-D globe that is animated to display images of the atmosphere, oceans, land, and solar system.

The new exhibit also features a display developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

It provides visitors with more than 500 graphic scenarios featuring everything from real-time infrared satellite images over land to air traffic control flight paths to sea ice concentration and snow cover.

Experts say it is an important educational tool.

PRS is part of a larger space exploration exhibit that will open to the public July 2, 2010.
