Ventura teen arrested for home burglary

VENTURA, Calif. Police say a man was asleep inside his house on Miller Court near Thille Street in Ventura when he heard someone knocking on an outside door shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim then spotted the teenage suspect in the backyard so he locked himself in his bedroom and called 911.

According to investigators, the teen then broke some glass in order to get into the house.

Ventura police arrived shortly after, just as the suspect was attempting to open the locked bedroom door. He took off running but officers confronted him in the kitchen. After a brief struggle, the teenager was arrested.

The 17-year-old was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries he sustained during the struggle with police before being booked at juvenile hall for residential burglary.

No one else was injured.
