Blue Line train hits, kills pedestrian

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. The accident was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and East Vernon Street.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency officials said it is unclear why the man was on the tracks, and have not ruled out the possibility of suicide.

No one aboard the train was injured. However, fire officials said the female train operator was visibly distraught following the collision.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident.
