Manager conspired to rob store, arrested

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. A Game Stop employee was emptying trash Sunday night when an unknown male approached. The male pulled out a rifle and ordered the employee back inside the store.

Once inside, the suspect ordered three other employees to the store room. The suspect fired off several rounds, but no one was injured. The suspect then attempted to duct tape the employees, but one of them fought back and eventually pushed the suspect out of the store. The suspect sped away in a vehicle.

The workers called 911 and provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Deputies caught up with him at Foothill Boulevard and Spruce Street. He was later identified at Sean Murphy, 19, of Fontana.

Further investigation revealed that Murphy planned the robbery with the assistant manager of Game Stop, Marisa Ruiz.

Murphy was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center for attempted robbery, assault with a firearm and kidnapping. Ruiz was arrested and booked at the same center for attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
