Designer items go cheap on popular Web sites

Fashion Web sites selling high-end clothing at bargain-basement prices are some of the most popular Web sites on the Internet. It's a chance for shoppers to sift through designer items without having to push and shove their way through throngs of other shoppers. In fact, we found one of the newest fashion Web site companies right here in Los Angeles and we got to see firsthand the merchandise the company sells and how the operation works.

"Everyone needs a nice pair of skinny jeans. These are Sir Fontaine. They normally retail for like over $150, but on HauteLook you'll get them for 79 bucks," said Carlota Espinosa, vice president of HauteLook.com

And where can you get such a deal? A Web site that sells high-quality fashion brands, such as BCBG, Elizabeth and James, M Missoni at discounts of 50 to 75 percent off every day.

There are several sites that offer similar sales, including SmartBargains.com, Gilt Groupe, and Perfectsale.com. Some of them require an invitation to join, or charge an annual fee.

HauteLook is open to everyone and is a Los Angeles-based company. So most of their clothing is California-chic and current with our weather needs. Plus, Carlota says, they have a deep inventory with sizes up to 14, not just 2s and 4s.

And the Web site carries the always popular kid's styles, especially helpful for the moms who don't have time to go to the mall.

Plus you'll find housewares like Royal Stafford china settings.

HauteLook sales are limited-time events beginning every day, Monday through Friday at 8 a.m.

Often the most popular sale items will be gone in the first few hours of the sale so it users recommend being logged on at the beginning of the sale.
