January 18, 2010 12:21:14 AM PST
A known gang member was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man and driving over him outside a party at a Victorville hotel room on Saturday.Witnesses told police that the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Miguel Contreras of Victorville, stabbed a person at the party at the Quality Inn before getting into his blue Dodge Durango shortly before 3 a.m. According to witnesses, Contreras seemed to purposely run over the stabbing victim and three other party-goers in the parking lot before he picked up his friend and drove away.

A short time later, the SUV in question was pulled over at 7th Street and La Paz Drive. Deputies said they found a bloody knife inside the vehicle and also noticed the SUV had front-end damage and was smeared with blood.

Contreras is in custody for attempted murder.

Investigators say Contreras and his friend argued with party organizers, which escalated to a fight in the parking lot. Police say Contreras took a knife from his vehicle and stabbed a 31-year-old male victim in the side of his chest, puncturing his lung.

The victim is being treated for a critical stab wound and other trauma caused by the vehicle. The other three victims were not seriously injured.
