Teen arrested for killing anti-gang worker

LOS ANGELES The 16-year-old is accused of shooting Ronald Barron, 40, a gang intervention worker with the Amer-I-can program. Investigators say Barron confronted the teen who was tagging a wall at Pico Boulevard and Sycamore Street. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot Barron.

Barron was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the suspect is not being released because of his age. Witnesses say he calmly walked away after the shooting and disappeared into a residential area.

Homicide and gang detectives took the teen into custody. School police helped in the investigation.

The suspect is not believed to be a gang member. Police say he is a known tagger and acted alone.
