Suspect killed after shootout in Fontana

FONTANA, Calif. The officers were responding to reports of a suspect driving a stolen car and brandishing a weapon near Arrow Boulevard and Sierra Avenue.

The suspect eluded officers for a while, but when police caught up with him the suspect started shooting, authorities said.

Officers returned fire and killed the man, 35-year-old Mark Smith. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is now looking into the incident.
