March 14, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
People with severe psoriasis may face a greater risk for heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems.

A new Danish study found that those with severe cases of the skin disease were 24 percent more likely to have a heart attack and 45 percent more likely to suffer a stroke.

Researchers believe there may be a shared inflammatory response between psoriasis and heart ailments.

Ultimately, the study may change the way patients are managed in the future.
