Santa Ana to offer dog license amnesty

March 31, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
The City of Santa Ana is offering an amnesty program for dog owners with unlicensed pets. The Dog License Amnesty Program runs from April 1 to May 15. During that time, dog owners will be able to renew their expired licenses or get new dog licenses without worrying about late fees or extra charges.

Officials say the program will help dog owners get their pets licensed at a lower cost. It will also help more pets find their way back home if they are lost. Close to 97 percent of the animals impounded at the Orange County Animal Shelter that are wearing license tags are returned to their owners.

A current rabies vaccination is required to license your dog. Dog owners get a discount on their license fee if their pets are spayed or neutered.

Licenses can be bought at the Santa Ana City Hall Finance Department.
