The suspects were able to get out of the store. As police arrived on scene, they saw the suspects running on foot being chased by a mob of people from the store.
While taking the suspects into custody on Occidental Street, one of the men struggled with officers, who opened fire. He was taken to Western Medical Center, where he was declared dead. He was identified as 19-year-old Marcus Sulusi Tagatauli of Garden Grove.
The other suspect, identified as 20-year-old Alexander Lamont Talaugea of Santa Ana, was taken into police custody without incident.
No officers were injured in the incident.
