Avoid junk food during pregnancy

April 21, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
New research suggests women who eat junk food during pregnancy could be putting their children, and future grandchildren at risk for breast cancer. In a study of rats, scientists fed some pregnant rats normally, and gave others high fat foods. Then, they looked at breast cancer rates in the rats' daughters, and granddaughters, who were fed normal food.

Researchers found the rats that ate high fat foods were up to 60 percent more likely to develop breast cancer tumors, than other rodents.

Researchers say that while there is more research to be done, the findings underline the importance of eating well during pregnancy.
