Newport Beach residents complain jet noise

April 21, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
Some Newport Beach homeowners are angry about new takeoff procedures at John Wayne Airport. They claim jets are taking off and turning east directly over their homes. They say they can hear the jet noise, and see their lights. The FAA disputes their claims.

Normally, jets heading anywhere east of Las Vegas from John Wayne Airport fly out over the Pacific Ocean before turning to head east to their destinations.

The new take off procedures have the aircraft turning over the center of Upper Newport bay. Local residents who live in the neighborhood on the east side of Newport Bay say the aircraft are turning over their homes instead.

The Newport Beach City Council is working with the airport to investigate and if necessary improve the situation.
