Geoff Weber is trying to break the world record for cross-country running.

April 23, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
Geoff Weber, a 42-year-old naval officer stationed in Virginia Beach, Va., left Santa Monica early Friday morning in an attempt to break the 30-year-old Guinness World Record for the fastest crossing of the United States on foot. Weber started his run by dipping his toes in the Pacific Ocean then headed east. The naval officer is running unassisted, which means he won't have a support car.

The record he's trying to beat stands at 46 days, 8 hours, and 36 minutes. Weber's final destination is New York City.
