Man convicted of murdering Home Depot manager

SANTA ANA, Calif. A Santa Ana jury convicted Jason Russell Richardson, 39, of Oceanside of shooting and killing Thomas Egan. He was also convicted of special circumstances murder in the commission of robbery and burglary.

The /*Orange County District Attorney*/ is seeking the death penalty in the case. The penalty phase of Richardson's trial is set for May 4th.

When Egan informed him he didn't have access to the safe, Richardson tried to steal money from the store's front cash registers. When Egan tried to stop him, he opened fire, wounding Egan in the stomach. The victim was rushed to Western Medical Center where he died.
