Memorial held for 4 kids killed in I5 crash

WHITTIER, Calif.

It was an unimaginable tragedy for the Milan family when a car crash along the 5 Freeway killed 4 children, 3 siblings and one cousin April 12.

Jessica Milan says she can't remember a single detail of the crash that killed her three children. She says the crash has left her without a family. At a Whittier funeral home, family and friends gathered to remember 5-year-old Xochitl, 8-year-old Edgar and 9-year-old Cynthia. All were to be laid to rest Thursday.

Jessica says she's turned to her faith for strength and thanks the community for support they have received. The 31-year-old is still recovering from the injuries she suffered from the crash that happened along a rain-soaked stretch of highway. Authorities say a pickup truck spun out of control, causing a three-car pileup. The driver of the truck, John Blackburn of Frazier Park, was killed and Milan's 12-year-old nephew, Luis, was also killed.

Carla Milan says her son Luis was her only companion, and now she's all alone. She says she and her sister console each other during these very dark times. Her son was buried in Oakland last week.

Gaspar de Luna is the uncle of the two grieving mothers. He says the children were all very well-mannered and did very well in school, and he hopes they will be good children in heaven.
