The accident happened at about 2:30 Thursday afternoon in the city of Redlands near the University Avenue offramp. According to initial estimates, about 70 cows are expected to survive.
CHP has closed the two right lanes. The two left lanes are open.
The best alternate route is to try the 60 freeway eastbound through Moreno Valley toward the 10 freeway.
Another alternate route is to exit off Redlands Boulevard to avoid the massive backup on the 10 freeway.
