Parking costs may increase in Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, Calif. The /*Santa Monica City Council*/ will vote Tuesday, May 11, on a plan to raise the hourly and monthly parking rates in the downtown area.

If the plan is approved, the proposed maximum daily rates in some parking structures would rise from $7 to $9 a day.

The evening flat rate would increase from $3 to $5. The monthly rate would go from $82.50 to $121.

The Lookout News says the rate recommendations were made by Walker Parking Consultants.

The fee hikes are aimed at improving parking availability and generate more money to fund parking structure improvements and programs that encourage drivers to find alternative methods of transportation.
