3 local hospitals fined for medical errors

State health officials have fined nine California hospitals for medical errors. Three of those facilities are in Orange County and the Inland Empire.Staff at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo injected a newborn with morphine intended for the baby's mother. The hospital reportedly filed a corrective plan to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

In Riverside, Parkview Community Hospital was fined after a surgeon removed the wrong kidney from a patient with a kidney tumor.

Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree was fined after a 4-year old girl, who was having her tonsils removed, was burned by cauterizing equipment.

All three hospitals face a $50,000 fine, which is a first for each.
