O.C. police shoot, Taser burglary suspect

SANTA ANA, Calif. Authorities responded to a call of a possible /*burglar*/ just before midnight at 2800 N. Bristol St. Police said the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Graham Lee Islas of Santa Ana, tried to break into several apartments and terrorized residents.

Islas allegedly used a steel bar to smash out the windows of Flor Toledo's apartment, where she was sleeping with her husband and their four young children, including a 5-month-old baby.

Toledo's husband used the base of a lamp to fend off the intruder. The family was frightened, but not injured.

Police said Islas then went to the parking lot of the complex and confronted a couple in the parking lot, who fled as he stole their property.

When police arrived, they allegedly saw Islas smashing windows at the apartment complex. Islas fled on foot, and after a short pursuit, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Police said after Islas was shot, he ran into the street with officers in pursuit. There was another altercation, and the officers fired again. Islas allegedly got into a fight with police, who said they had to Taser him to get him under control.

Islas was treated at a local hospital with two gunshot wounds. He is expected to survive. He will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, indecent exposure and burglary.
