Police search for Pico Rivera murder suspect

PICO RIVERA, Calif. There was a lot of activity in front of the Whittier Narrows Dam Recreational Area because of the ongoing investigation at the crime scene in the morning.

Boarders at the Whittier Narrows Equestrian Center waited patiently to enter the facility that had been temporarily blocked off due to police activity.

According to investigators, a passerby spotted the woman's body in the street at approximately 5:30 a.m.

A resident in the area, who did not want to be identified, said he heard a loud noise nearby at around 3:30 a.m., but wasn't sure what he had heard.

The woman was shot at the location, according to officials. L.A. County Sheriff's detectives have been combing the scene to find clues.

"Pico Rivera deputies were called here regarding a person down, a rescue call," said Lt. Liam Gallagher of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. "They arrived with paramedics and found a female adult in the street. She had suffered numerous gunshot wounds to the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene."

Authorities have no description of the suspect at this time.

"We are at the early stages of processing the scene, and we have nothing to go on so far," Gallagher said.

Police say that the victim is a young, possibly Hispanic, woman.
