Earthquake shakes central California region

SALINAS, Calif. According to the /*U.S. Geological Survey*/, a 3.6-magnitude temblor struck at 11:05 p.m. Friday and was centered near Prunedale, about 15 miles north of Salinas.

Seismic occurrences of this magnitude generally aren't powerful enough to cause injury or significant damage, but are often felt in populated areas.

The USGS website received dozens of responses from people in the region who reported feeling the /*quake*/.
