Ventura fire stations accepting worn US flags

VENTURA, Calif. The flags collected will be given to the American Veterans Flagpoles & Flag Co., which will retire them in a ceremony held several times a year at the Veterans Home of California in Ventura.

Firefighters will accept the flags during normal business hours at 45 fire stations.

"Firefighters have tremendous respect for the American flag," Oxnard Fire Chief /*Joe Milligan*/ said. "We're honored to accept these flags so they can be retired with the dignity our national symbol deserves."

In addition, flags will be accepted at the Ventura County Fire Administration building on Durley Avenue at the /*Camarillo Airport*/.

"I'm on a mission to help low-income and homeless /*veterans*/ by paying them to raise and lower flags through a new nonprofit organization I'm establishing," said Paul Bramson, who operated American Veterans Flagpoles & Flag Co. "A portion of all sales by American Flagpoles & Flag goes to the prevention of homelessness in Ventura County."
