Summer fashion brings floral, tribal looks

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. First, the "dark romance" look is out, according to Harper's Bazaar editor Jane Loddo. She says the black lace and ruffles are a little too moody and dramatic.

Instead, pretty, pale, feminine, floral looks, like dresses from Ann Taylor, are in.

Also on the out are hippie chic and bohemian looks. Instead, go for the tribal look, wearing clothing items with bold embellishments and stronger prints.

"The Chico's tribal-inspired black dress, love the colorful faux stones on the front and the print border, and it's a whole new approach to the little black dress," Loddo said.

Say goodbye to menswear-inspired clothing, and say hello to denim! "Jeggings" are part jeans and part leggings, and they're hot this season.

"You've got the comfort of a jean, but it's got an edge of the legging, and it's a whole new approach to the skinny leg," Loddo said. Adriano Goldschmied is one of many retailers that offer "jeggings."

Also, look for new makeup this season because heavy, caked-on color is out.

"For summer, it's about a fabulous new lipstick," Loddo said. She suggests trying Chanel Rouge Coco.

To get the summer-tanned look, Loddo recommends trying bronzing powder from Elizabeth Arden.

"It gives you the glow of bare, sun-kissed skin, but without going into the sun," Loddo said.

Heavy, big purses are also out this season, and over-the-shoulder purses are in.

"It's great for the airport, it's really great for shopping around, a great, fresh and playful bag," Loddo said.
