Incoming UCLA athletes expelled after arrest

WESTWOOD, Calif.

Eighteen-year-olds Paul Richardson, Shaquille Richardson and Josh Shirley were informed Tuesday morning that they won't be allowed to continue summer school and won't be permitted to enroll at /*UCLA*/ in the fall.

The three incoming freshmen were arrested June 23 by university police and charged with suspicion of felony theft for allegedly stealing a student's purse from a storage locker in the dining area of Hedrick Hall, a dorm.

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel says the three players know they "made a terrible mistake."

Neuheisel says if the three meet certain requirements, they may be allowed to enroll in January for Winter Quarter. Also, additional discipline could be imposed by the dean of students.

Paul Richardson is a wide receiver from Gardena Serra High School; Shaquille Richardson is a defensive back from Los Alamitos High School and Shirley is a linebacker from Fontana Kaiser.
