A plane crash that triggered a 20-acre brush fire on Catalina Island is under investigation on Friday.

The plane crashed two miles from the airport near Avalon at about 1 p.m. Thursday. The pilot reportedly had called for help, believing he was having a heart attack.

A fire inspector said the pilot of the single-engine plane was dead when rescue teams reached the crash site.

The fire is 100 percent contained.
