Fad sparked by Lady Gaga has fans 'wide-eyed'

LOS ANGELES In the video for her song "Bad Romance," /*Lady Gaga*/'s eyes are altered to make them look particularly wide.

But there is a way to get that look without the help of special effects.

According to the New York Times, young women across the country are buying so-called "circle" contact lenses imported from Asia.

There's even a tutorial on YouTube by a Lancôme makeup artist showing women how to get those Lady Gaga eyes.

The contact lenses make the eyes appear larger because they cover the iris and part of the whites of the eyes.

No major manufacturer in the U.S. currently sells the circle lenses so women have been buying them online.

But it's illegal in the U.S. to sell any type of contact lens without a prescription.

Eye doctors and the /*FDA*/ say there is a risk of significant eye injuries and even blindness when people buy unregulated contact lenses.
