West Hollywood man's body found in ocean

July 11, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
A body found floating in Santa Monica Bay Sunday has been confirmed to be that of a man who jumped off the Venice Pier last week.Authorities say fisherman found the body floating about 300 yards off the shore in the 2300 block of Ocean Front Walk in Santa Monica around 8:20 a.m.

Los Angeles County Lifeguard Capt. Terry Hearst said he believes the corpse may be that of 31-year-old Brian Patrick Dunn of West Hollywood.

Witnesses told the Coast Guard that Dunn was intoxicated and fully clothed when he jumped into the churning surf at 2:30 a.m July 5.

Dunn reportedly told friends to meet him on the beach before he jumped, but he never made it.

Authorities recovered the corpse from the water and sent it to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's Baywatch station at Marina del Rey on Fiji Way. It will be turned over to coroner's investigators.
